Residential Trash Service Guidelines

The City of Fairhope provides weekly trash collection to help keep our community clean and beautiful. Please review these guidelines to ensure safe and efficient service.

Trash includes the following items placed curbside:

  • Yard waste: Limbs, leaves, grass clippings
  • Bulk items: Old furniture, appliances, crates
  • Large household debris: Non-hazardous items too large for regular garbage pickup

📍 Trash Pickup: Collected once per week. Check your day using the Trash Collection Map.

Weekly Trash Volume Limit

To serve all residents efficiently, trash placed curbside may not exceed:

2.5 cubic yards per week

This is approximately equal to the bed of a full-size pickup truck, loaded level.

If your pile exceeds this limit, only 2.5 cubic yards will be collected. Oversized loads may be subject to additional charges.

Yard Waste Guidelines

To support our yard waste recycling program, please follow these steps:

  • Keep yard waste separate from bulk trash and household debris.
  • No plastic bags — they are not biodegradable.
  • Use compostable paper yard bags from local hardware and garden stores.
  • Consider home composting to reduce disposal and enrich your garden.

Size Limits:

  • No tree logs over 8 inches in diameter
  • Limbs no longer than 6 feet
  • No stumps or root balls

The City does not pick up debris from commercial landscaping or tree service contractors. Only residentially generated yard waste is accepted.

Trash Items Not Allowed Curbside

Please DO NOT place these items in your weekly trash pile:

  • Paint cans, oil/antifreeze containers, garden pots — place these in your regular garbage cart, not bulk trash.
  • Loose debris: Must be contained to prevent littering.
  • Items blocking sidewalks, roads, or drainage — improper placement may result in fines.
Bulk Trash Pickup

Large items such as furniture and appliances must follow these rules:

  • Do not place bulk items at the curb more than 24 hours before pickup.
  • Ensure items are not blocking sidewalks, streets, hydrants, or drainage areas.
Small Electronics Disposal

Small electronics should not be placed with trash or household garbage. Instead, dispose of them at:

  • Drop-off location: 555 S. Section Street (City Landfill)
  • Accepted items: TVs, stereos, microwaves, radios, and similar electronics
  • Please bring your City vehicle decal (available at Public Utilities or City Hall)
