Cast Iron Pipe Replacement in Downtown Fairhope

Fairhope Public Utilities Natural Gas Department is committed to maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas system for our community. As part of our ongoing infrastructure improvements, we are replacing aging cast iron gas pipelines in downtown Fairhope with modern pipes. These upgrades will enhance system safety, reduce the risk of leaks, and improve service reliability for homes and businesses in the area.

During the replacement process, residents and business owners may notice temporary construction activities, including excavation and lane closures. We are working diligently to minimize disruptions and appreciate the community’s patience as we complete this necessary work. Throughout the project, businesses along construction routes will remain OPEN! We will organize and complete overnight work for businesses along our route that will need gas to remain serving their customers. 

What you need to know:

Construction began August 13 and will continue for approximately 8 months. Work areas will include sections of downtown Fairhope, in the locations below. Construction will be completed in zones in order to minimize disruption in the downtown area. This project is part of the City’s broader efforts to upgrade aging infrastructure citywide.

Zone 5- 40% Completed

Zone 6- Started working in Zone 6

Traffic Impact:

During construction, there will be temporary road closures and detours around active work zones. The project team will work to minimize closures near business access points and will keep detours clearly marked. Updated traffic plans will be shared regularly as the project progresses.
