The City of Fairhope is now accepting nominations for its 2025 Veteran of the Year Award. This annual honor recognizes a local, living veteran who has not only served our country with distinction but has also continued to make a meaningful impact on the Fairhope community through leadership and volunteer service. The 2025 Veteran of the Year will be announced at the final City Council meeting in October. Previous recipients of the award include Dr. Tonya Butler, Edwin Lessard Jr., Larry Bridges, and Doug Mansmann.
Eligible nominees must either reside in Fairhope, work in Fairhope, or be a member of American Legion Post 199, VFW Post 5660, or another recognized veteran organization in the city. Nominees must be living veterans of one of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces including the Reserves, National Guard, or U.S. Merchant Marine. Nominees must also demonstrate exceptional patriotism, leadership, and a commitment to community or civic service. Previous recipients of the award are not eligible. Veterans may be nominated for a single outstanding act or for ongoing community service.
Applications are available at Fairhope City Hall, American Legion Post 199, VFW Post 5660, or can be found online at www.fairhopeal.gov. Completed applications must be submitted or postmarked no later than midnight on October 17, 2025.
