FAIRHOPE FIRE DEPARTMENT INTRODUCES
At a recent Fairhope City Council meeting the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department introduced members of their Explorer program to the Mayor and Council and to the public. They also used this opportunity to explain the Explorer program and share how it benefits our community. The program began in April of 2008.
The Explorers are a group of young men and women who are between the ages of 14 to 21 who volunteer their time to make our communities a safer place to live. Volunteering as an explorer takes a lot of time and commitment. They have State Guidelines, Boy Scout Guidelines, and Guidelines with the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department. The Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department currently has 14 explorers in their post, which is post #5058.
The Explorers are allowed to train and attend all meetings of the Fire Department. They also have their own meetings they are required to attend twice a month were they specialize in training on ways they can benefit the department. Some of the explorers are allowed to respond to calls on fire trucks but they must be over the age of 16. All explorers are assigned to certain stations and can be used as needed by the department. The fire department issues each Explorer turn out gear to ensure they are protected at all times. The FVFD is honored to have these 14 young men and women volunteer their time to help the citizens of their community. This is a great opportunity to educate young people about fire fighting and build a new generation for the FVFD.
The FVFD Explorers advisors are Asst. Chief Chris Ellis, Volunteer Fire fighter Dale Kelly and Tommy Bozeman and Amanda Kelly
